Cultivation on the Lerna islands is very limited. The other numerous smaller islands included in the territory need not be taken into account in this connection.
I am not aware that the persons who were employed in surveying the New Territory have furnished complete returns of cultivated lands, but for present purposes, I should say, a very rough estimate that the total area of cultivated lands on the mainland and on the other islands, notably Lantau, is not more than 10,000 acres. This land is practically all laid out in a terrace system, and most of it is cultivable.
